Frankland River, located in the Great Southern region of Western Australia, has quietly, yet firmly, established itself as one of the state’s premium wine producing regions since the first vineyard was planted in 1968.

The Lange family have called Frankland River home for 5 generations. The vineyard was planted in 1997 and the Lange Estate label was created.

Lange Estate Riesling and Shiraz

Are the flagship wines for the Frankland region and Lange Estate Winery have recently introduced a second Riesling to their portfolio.

Riesling, originally associated with wines from the Rhine region in Germany, is a beautifully aromatic wine, filled with white floral perfumes, citrus nuances, and a crisp, tightly integrated acidity. Styles seen throughout the world include dry, sweet and even sparkling, however Lange Estate have focused their winemaking on the dry style, showcasing the pure varietal characters typically seen in Frankland River.

2021 will be the first vintage that two Rieslings will be released.

The Providence Road Riesling was first released in 2018, and each year has seen this wine establish itself as a superb example of a Great Southern Riesling. The 2021 Lange Estate Providence Road Riesling is alive with white floral notes and citrus, while the mouth-watering flavours of lime, green apple and sorbet are supported by a textural acidity to a long, crisp finish.

In 2021, Lange Estate will be sharing their Fifth Generation Riesling, produced for the first time this vintage.

The Fifth Generation Label is kept for the best of the best when it comes to the Lange Estate wines. The range currently has a Shiraz and a Cabernet Sauvignon, and is only made when certain parcels of wine are extraordinary, and only small volumes are made each time a vintage reaches the desired heights that the Fifth Generation label commands.

2021 presented the opportunity to release a Fifth Generation Riesling, a stunning wine with a delicate intensity and complexity resulting from a slow, cool fermentation, extended maturation on fine lees and careful blending.

This wine is a heady mix of vibrant citrus, bath salts and green tea, with kaffir lime, nectarine and a subtle creamy edge carried by a minerally acidity to a long, driven finish. This wine will develop further complexity with patience, however it will be thoroughly enjoyable upon release.
